Saturday Snapshot #4: 'Old' Zealand

As much as I like going to places abroad, my home country never fails to amaze me. When I visited my aunt in Goes, a small city in the Dutch province of Zeeland*, today, I realised how much I actually like the Netherlands — especially these seventeenth century merchant houses alongside the canals. Yep, that's right: canal houses are not only reserved for the capital, Amsterdam, but you can basically find them in any old town in this country. It's good to be home again!

* When Dutch explorer Abel Tasman discovered New Zealand in 1642, he named it after the province of Zeeland. The map-makers of English navigator James Cook later misspelt the country's name on their maps, labelling it 'New Zealand' instead of 'New Zeeland'.

    1. Dankjewel! :) Het is inderdaad een hele mooie provincie. En als je er dan toch bent: Veere, Middelburg en Vlissingen zijn zeker het bezoeken waard!
