As much as I like going to places abroad, my home country never fails to amaze me. When I visited my aunt in Goes, a small city in the Dutch province of Zeeland*, today, I realised how much I actually like the Netherlands — especially these seventeenth century merchant houses alongside the canals. Yep, that's right: canal houses are not only reserved for the capital, Amsterdam, but you can basically find them in any old town in this country. It's good to be home again!
* When Dutch explorer Abel Tasman discovered New Zealand in 1642, he named it after the province of Zeeland. The map-makers of English navigator James Cook later misspelt the country's name on their maps, labelling it 'New Zealand' instead of 'New Zeeland'.
Prachtige foto! Ga in september een weekendje naar Zeeland :-)
ReplyDeleteDankjewel! :) Het is inderdaad een hele mooie provincie. En als je er dan toch bent: Veere, Middelburg en Vlissingen zijn zeker het bezoeken waard!
