My name is Maaike and I'm a 24-year-old student from the Netherlands. Travel is not just a hobby but also a lifestyle: the past few years, I've lived a somewhat nomadic life and I've learned to call my bright red backpack my new best friend.
I was bitten by the travel bug when I was 16: I won two projects at school, which meant I could follow research tracks in Lapland (Northern Norway) and Hungary. With the support of my family and friends, I have worked in New Zealand and studied in the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain and the United States and visited a multitude of countries in & outside Europe ever since.
Believe it or not, travelling is not only about tasting the best local food and dipping your toes in crystal clear oceans. It also involves sunburns, rainy hikes and a lot of red tape. It is these travel experiences, good and challenging, I want to share with you.
